i like frederick wiseman and the films he makes, I think they're very good.
so good in fact that I talk about them on a semi-regular basis with film friend shawn glinis, as well as various film scholars, thinkers, and makers, record those conversations, and make them available to the general public for listening.
this would be "wiseman podcast", and you can find it in most of the places where people generally go for this kind of thing, I'm sure.
also, we made some t-shirts, they say "fred wiseman was right" on them, like in the image on the right. If that seems like something you'd wear you can buy one by e-mailing wisemanpodcast@gmail.com
doing this series has given me some other neat opportunities to further proselytize the gospel of these films:
- wrote an essay on “titicut follies” for the bfi’s “cinema expanded: the films of frederick wiseman” blu-ray box-set
- co-curated and introduced all the screenings for the wiseman retrospective series “this is america” at sf’s venerable roxie theater
- introduced “the store” and “missile” for bampfa’s “frederick wiseman: america at work” film series
- wrote a piece on “meat” in screen slate to mark the final screening of said series
- contributed a section on “domestic violence” to the piece documentary magazine editor abby sun wrote following the unwelcome news of his passing
